Launch of Melbourne Build Expo

London Build 20263 September 2024

In September 2024 events organiser Oliver Kinross announced a new trade show, the Melbourne Build Expo, to be held on 22 and 23 October 2025 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. It is the company's response to requests from visitors to its Sydney Build Expo, which it calls Australia's biggest trade show, for an event focused on Melbourne's construction sector. Oliver Kinross also runs the London, New York and Chicago Build Expos.

The inaugural show expects more than 12,000 construction professionals, over 300 exhibitors and more than 450 speakers. Seven exhibition bays have been booked, which the organiser says should make it Victoria's biggest construction show.

The organiser describes Melbourne as Australia's fastest-growing city, forecast to exceed 8 million people by 2050 and to become the country's largest city by 2030. That growth is fuelling a building boom, requiring more housing and infrastructure, workforce recruitment and training, greater use of sustainable materials and practices, and adoption of digital technology. The city is also Australia's skyscraper capital, with high-rise living expected to become more common.

Attendance is free. The two days cover residential, commercial, infrastructure, institutional and industrial construction, with 12 summits, CPD-accredited workshops, an exhibition, more than 15 networking parties and Meet the Buyer sessions. The organiser also promises a festival atmosphere with live music, DJs, performances and immersive experiences on the show floor.
