Radical Mixed-Use Scheme for Swindon's Oasis Centre

In November 2024 owner SevenCapital began consulting on a large redevelopment of the Oasis Leisure Centre site in Swindon, combining warehouses, up to 710 homes and a refurbished leisure centre. It said the scale was needed to make reviving the leisure centre, whose 1970s dome and pool are Grade II listed, viable, and that it had consulted Historic England, the Twentieth Century Society and Swindon Borough Council.
The sports hall would give way to outdoor multi-use games areas and the dome would receive a lightweight cladding skin to stop leaks. New leisure uses would include a bowling alley, indoor golf, a gym and cafes. The homes would be one and two-bedroom flats in blocks of six to ten storeys with up to 260 parking spaces, and two commercial buildings in the north west for B8 storage and distribution were put forward as creating up to 630 jobs.
A public exhibition was set for Tuesday 26 November, with comments wanted by the next day. Advisers include Carney Sweeney (planning), Fellows (construction) and The Historic Environment Consultancy.
