Wixoe Water Hall Farm Land Could Become Solar Farm

Bluefield Renewable Developments Ltd applied to West Suffolk Council on 19 July 2023 to build a solar farm, with substation and inverters, on arable land at Wixoe. The scheme would operate for 40 years before the land reverted to agriculture.
Panels would be set in east-west rows, 2.5m to six metres apart so that sheep could graze, standing three metres high and enclosed by a 2.5m steel mesh fence. Construction would take six to nine months. The applicant's statement said the site should generate about 36MW, supporting government renewable energy, energy security and net zero goals.
Earlier, at an exhibition in Sturmer Village Hall on 9 March, 40 residents attended. Of 23 who returned feedback forms, three were fully supportive, ten broadly supportive, five opposed and five undecided. Concerns included construction traffic, visual impact for houses to the south, and flood risk.
